Ever wondered how much ink you could use in your lifetime? The Pen Ink Calculator estimates how much you write and how many pens you may go through based on your daily writing habits and the amount of ink in each pen.
How does it work?
The calculator estimates your yearly writing based on the number of words you write each day and how many days per week you write. It then estimates the distance covered by that writing and compares it with the amount of ink available in each pen to estimate how many pens you could use over your lifetime. When Feet is selected, distances are shown primarily in feet and miles. The result is only an estimate because handwriting size, writing pressure, pen type, and ink flow can vary.

How far does one pen write?+
Manufacturers often quote about 4,900 to 6,500 feet of line for a standard ballpoint refill, though gel and rollerball pens run dry much sooner.
How much ink is one word?+
About a centimetre of line for average handwriting, or roughly 0.4 inches. Large or looping script easily doubles that, which is why every figure here is an estimate.
Why is my real pen usage higher?+
Pens get lost, dry out, or are thrown away half full. Ink capacity is an upper bound, not a prediction.
Does pen type change the result?+
Yes. Fountain and gel pens lay down far more ink per inch than ballpoints, so set a shorter ink length for those.
Can I use metres instead of feet?+
