What is this calculator?
Opening the fridge is one of the most repeated actions in a home, and most of those trips end with the door closing again and nothing taken out. This calculator turns your daily fridge habit into yearly and lifetime totals, then shows how many more openings are still ahead of you at your current rate.
How does it work?
Your daily fridge checks are multiplied by 365.25 to give a yearly figure. That yearly rate is applied to the years you have already lived for a lifetime total, and to the years between your age and your expected lifespan for the openings still to come.
Frequently asked questions
How many times a day do people open the fridge?+
Household studies usually land somewhere between 8 and 20 openings a day for a family kitchen. Twelve is a reasonable middle for one person.
Does a quick look count?+
Yes. Opening the door to stare at the same shelves counts exactly the same as taking something out.
Does this include the freezer?+
Only if you count those openings in your daily number. The maths simply follows whatever figure you enter.
Why 365.25 days a year?+
It averages in leap years so long projections do not drift by several days per decade.
