What is this calculator?
This calculator estimates your lifetime phone unlocks and the hours those quick glances have taken. Enter your age, the age you got your first phone and your daily unlock count to see totals per life, year, day and waking hour. It is useful for auditing screen habits or comparing numbers with the rest of the household.
How does it work?
Daily unlocks are multiplied by 365.25 and by the years you have owned a phone. Time spent assumes an average twenty-second glance per unlock. Your phone's Screen Time or Digital Wellbeing report gives an exact daily count if you want a sharper starting number.

Where do I find my real unlock count?+
iPhone: Settings → Screen Time → See All Activity → Pickups. Android: Settings → Digital Wellbeing.
Does this include notifications I only glance at?+
Yes, if they involved waking and unlocking the screen. Lock-screen peeks are not counted.
Is a high number bad?+
Not by itself. Frequency matters less than whether the pickups interrupt things you care about.
Why start at 14?+
