What is this calculator?

This calculator estimates the words you have typed across emails, messages, documents and code. Enter your average words per day, how many days a week you type and your age, and it returns yearly and lifetime word counts plus the equivalent in printed pages and full-length books. A fun perspective for writers, students and keyboard-heavy jobs.

How does it work?

Words per day are multiplied by your typing days each week and by 52 weeks for a yearly total, then scaled by your age. Pages assume 250 words each and books assume 50,000 words. Typing volume varies daily, so the result is a rounded estimate.

Frequently asked questions

How many words do people type a day?+

Office workers often land between 1,000 and 5,000 words a day across email, chat and documents. Writers and developers can go far higher.

Does chat and texting count?+

Yes, if you include it in your daily average. Short messages add up quickly over a week.

Why 250 words per page?+

It is the standard estimate for a double-spaced printed page, which makes the comparison easy to picture.

Why 50,000 words per book?+

That is roughly the length of a short novel, a common benchmark used by writing challenges.

Does it use my age as typing years?+

Yes, for simplicity. Lower the words per day if you only started typing heavily later in life.
