What is this calculator?

This calculator converts your Earth weight into your weight on the Moon, where gravity is far weaker. Enter your weight in kilograms or pounds and it shows the Moon figure, the difference as a percentage, and for context what the same body would weigh on Mars and Jupiter. A quick way to make gravity feel tangible.

How does it work?

Your mass stays the same everywhere; only weight changes. We multiply your Earth weight by each world's surface gravity relative to Earth: 0.1655 for the Moon, 0.377 for Mars and 2.528 for Jupiter. The percentage difference compares the Moon figure against your Earth weight.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I weigh less on the Moon?+

The Moon is much smaller and less massive than Earth, so its surface gravity is about 16.5% of ours and it pulls on you far more weakly.

Does my mass change?+

No. Mass is the amount of matter in your body and stays constant. Weight is the force gravity applies to that mass, and that is what changes.

What gravity values are used?+

Moon 0.1655, Mars 0.377 and Jupiter 2.528 times Earth's surface gravity.

Could I really stand on Jupiter?+

No. Jupiter is a gas giant with no solid surface, so the figure is the weight you would feel at its cloud tops.

Does the unit matter?+

No. The ratio is the same whether you enter kilograms or pounds, so the answer comes back in the unit you chose.
