What is this calculator?

This calculator works out the wait between the hair you have now and the length you are aiming for. Enter your current length, your target and your monthly growth rate, and it returns the distance still to grow, the months required and the rough date you should get there. Useful after a haircut you regret or before growing out a style on purpose.

How does it work?

Scalp hair grows about 1.25 cm, or half an inch, each month for most people. The gap between your target and current length is divided by that monthly rate to give the number of months, and that many months are added to today's date for the estimated completion date.

Frequently asked questions

How fast does hair actually grow?+

Scalp hair averages about 1.25 cm, or half an inch, per month. Genetics, age and health move that figure a little in either direction.

Can I make my hair grow faster?+

Not meaningfully. A balanced diet and a healthy scalp help you reach your natural rate, but no product reliably exceeds it.

Why does my hair seem stuck at one length?+

Split ends and breakage remove length as fast as the roots add it, so regular trims often make growth look faster.

Should I switch the unit?+

Use whichever you measure in. Change the unit and the default growth rate, since 1.25 cm and 0.5 inches describe the same monthly growth.

How accurate is the completion date?+

It rounds up to whole months of steady growth. Real growth pauses during resting hair phases, so treat it as a target rather than a promise.
