What is this calculator?

This calculator adds up the cups, the cash and the caffeine behind your coffee habit. Tell it how many coffees you drink a day, what you pay and how long you have been drinking, and it returns your lifetime cup count, total spend and caffeine consumed. It suits daily café buyers, home brewers comparing costs, and anyone quietly wondering about that flat white.

How does it work?

Cups per day are multiplied by the days in your coffee-drinking years, then by your price per cup. Caffeine uses an average of 95mg per serving. Prices, cup sizes and roasts vary, so the totals are estimates rather than an audit of your bank statement.

Frequently asked questions

Does the price include home brewing?+

Whatever you type is used as-is. Home brewing often costs well under a dollar a cup, so enter a blended average if you mix cafés and kitchen.

How much caffeine is too much?+

Most health authorities put the safe ceiling for healthy adults at around 400mg a day, roughly four brewed coffees.

Why start at 18 by default?+

It is a common age for a regular coffee habit to begin. Change it to whenever you really started.

Is decaf counted?+

Cups are counted, but decaf carries only a few milligrams of caffeine, so the caffeine total would overstate things.
