What is this calculator?

This calculator estimates how much music has played across your life. Enter your age, the age you started listening seriously and your average daily hours, and it returns total listening hours, the equivalent in days, and roughly how many songs that adds up to. Background listening while working, commuting or cooking counts, which is why totals climb fast.

How does it work?

Daily listening hours are multiplied by 365.25 and by your listening years. The song count divides total minutes by an average track length of about three and a half minutes. Listening habits change over decades, so a single daily average keeps the estimate simple and readable.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find my real listening time?+

Most streaming services publish an annual wrap-up with your total minutes โ€” divide by 365 for a daily average.

Does podcast listening count?+

Only if you include it in your hours. The songs estimate would then overstate the count.

Why 3.5 minutes per song?+

It reflects the current average length of popular tracks; older catalogues skew slightly longer.

Is repeated listening counted twice?+

Yes โ€” the estimate counts plays, not unique songs.
