What is this calculator?

Most missed flights come from the drive, not the queue. This calculator starts at your scheduled departure time and subtracts the recommended airport buffer, parking or shuttle time and your travel time so you get two clear answers: when to be at the terminal, and when to walk out your front door.

How does it work?

Domestic flights default to a two hour airport buffer and international to three, and you can override that along with check-in, parking and travel time. Every buffer is subtracted from the departure time in sequence, and the total time allowance is the sum of them all.

Frequently asked questions

How early should I really be?+

Two hours before a domestic flight and three before an international one is the usual airline guidance. Big hubs and holiday peaks deserve more.

Can I cut it shorter with carry-on only?+

Often yes. Skipping the bag drop can save 20 to 30 minutes, but security queues are still unpredictable.

When does boarding close?+

Gates typically close 15 to 20 minutes before departure, so the departure time is not your deadline.

Should I add time for parking?+

Yes. Long-stay lots plus a shuttle can easily add 15 to 30 minutes before you reach the terminal door.

What about connecting flights?+

This tool covers the start of your journey. Connections depend on the airport layout and whether you re-clear security.
