What is this calculator?

This calculator adds up the quiet minutes you spend looking at the sky. Enter the average time you spend cloud watching each week, your age and the lifespan you expect, and it converts those scattered moments into hours per year, lifetime hours, whole days and the time still ahead of you. It is a gentle reminder that small habits accumulate.

How does it work?

Weekly minutes are multiplied by 52.18 weeks and divided by sixty to give hours per year. That yearly figure is multiplied by your age for the total so far and by your expected lifespan for the lifetime figure, then divided by 24 to express the result in whole days.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as cloud watching?+

Any time you spend deliberately looking at the sky, whether lying in a park, staring out of a window or pausing on a walk.

How do I estimate my weekly minutes?+

Think about a typical week rather than an unusual one. Even five minutes a day adds up to more than half an hour a week.

Why 52.18 weeks in a year?+

A year is 365.25 days, which is slightly more than 52 whole weeks. Using the exact figure keeps lifetime totals from drifting.

Does the lifetime figure assume I always did this?+

Yes. It applies today's habit across your whole expected life, which is why the total so far and the remaining hours are shown separately.

Is cloud watching actually good for you?+

Unstructured attention rest is widely linked to lower stress and better focus, so a few minutes of sky is time reasonably well spent.
