What is this calculator?

Laundry never really ends, it just pauses. This calculator turns the loads your household runs each week into monthly, yearly, ten-year and lifetime totals, plus a rough estimate of the hours you spend sorting, loading, hanging and folding along the way.

How does it work?

Loads per week are multiplied out across the year, then scaled by household size for a per-person view. Yearly loads are projected across ten years and your remaining lifetime. Each load is costed at roughly 20 minutes of hands-on time to estimate the hours involved.

Frequently asked questions

How many loads of laundry is normal per week?+

A single person often runs one or two loads a week, while a family of four typically lands somewhere between four and eight.

Does household size change the total?+

It does in practice. We show loads per person so you can see how much of the pile each member of the household is responsible for.

How long does one load actually take?+

We use 20 minutes of hands-on time per load for sorting, loading, transferring and folding. Machine time is not counted because you are free during it.

Why does the lifetime figure use my age?+

Lifetime loads are counted from today forward, so we multiply your yearly loads by the years remaining between your age and your expected lifespan.

Can I reduce the number of loads?+

Fuller loads, longer wear between washes and washing towels and bedding on a schedule are the three changes that cut the count fastest.
