What is this calculator?

Everyone walks into a room and immediately forgets why. This calculator takes the number of things you forget on a typical day and turns it into yearly totals, a lifetime count and the forgetting still ahead of you.

How does it work?

Forgotten things per day are multiplied by 365.25 for a yearly figure. That rate is applied to the years you have already lived and the years remaining before your expected lifespan to give lifetime and remaining totals.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as forgetting something?+

Anything you meant to do and did not: an unsent reply, a shopping item, a name, or why you walked into the kitchen.

How many things does a person forget per day?+

Three is a comfortable default. Busy weeks with lots of small errands push it much higher.

Does forgetting more mean a bad memory?+

Not really. Most forgetting is about attention and load, not memory capacity — more tasks means more dropped ones.

Why does the lifetime total look so large?+

Because small daily numbers compound. Three a day is over a thousand a year before you have done anything unusual.

Is the result exact?+

No. It projects today's rate across your whole life, so treat it as a playful estimate rather than a measurement.
