What is this calculator?

Mid-sentence, the thought vanishes. This calculator takes how often you lose your train of thought each week and how long it takes to find it again, then projects both the number of blank moments and the recovery time across a lifetime.

How does it work?

Moments per week times 52.18 gives moments per year, applied to the years lived and remaining for lifetime totals. Multiplying by the average recovery time converts the count into seconds, then hours spent hunting for the lost sentence.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I lose my train of thought mid-sentence?+

Working memory holds only a few items at once. An interruption, a distracting noise or a competing thought is enough to push the sentence out.

Is it normal to blank this often?+

Yes. A few times a week is typical for most adults, and it rises with tiredness, stress and busy environments.

What counts as recovery time?+

The seconds between the thought disappearing and either retrieving it or giving up and moving on.

How can I get the thought back?+

Retracing the conversation usually works โ€” repeating the last few words aloud or asking what the other person just said restores the context.

Does this measure memory problems?+

No. It is a playful estimate of an everyday quirk, not a health assessment of any kind.
