What is this calculator?

Somewhere out there, millions of people blow out candles on the same day as you. This calculator estimates how many. Enter your birth date and a world population figure, and it returns your likely number of birthday twins, the share of humanity they represent and how many birthdays are happening somewhere on Earth every single minute.

How does it work?

The world population is divided by 365.25 days to find the average number of people born on any given calendar date. That gives your estimated twins, which as a percentage is roughly 0.27% of everyone alive. Dividing the yearly birthday count by the minutes in a year gives the per-minute rate.

Frequently asked questions

How many people share my birthday?+

Spread evenly, roughly one in every 365 people alive. With today's population that is about 22,450,376 people sharing June 15 with you.

Are birthdays really spread evenly?+

Not quite. September is slightly busier in many countries and 29 February is far rarer, but the even split is a good first approximation.

What if I was born on 29 February?+

True leap-day twins are about a quarter as common, since that date only comes around every four years.

Why can I change the world population?+

Population estimates move constantly and the default is a current approximation. Change it to model a different year or region.

What does the per-minute figure mean?+

It is how many birthdays are being celebrated somewhere on Earth in any given minute, based on the population you entered.
